Area Volleyball: Knights sweep Bombers

Kenyon-Wanamingo faced its first Hiawatha Valley League opponent on Thursday when Cannon Falls visited. The Knights won all three sets (26-24, 25-17, 25-14).

Offensively for K-W, Ally Peterson had 19 kills, while Madi Luebke notched 19 assists and nine digs. Julianna Boyum led the team with seven blocks.

Makayla Bowen led Cannon Falls with 10 kills, while Jaci Winchell had a team-high 13 assists. Molly Bowen led with nine digs and Sara Twedt had four blocks on defense.

K-W hosts Stewartville on Tuesday, while Cannon Falls travels to North St. Paul on Saturday for a tournament.

Triton 3, Pine Island 2

Pine Island went back-and-forth with visiting Triton on Thursday but lost the final two sets to lose the match, 3-2.

Triton won the first set, 25-16, before Pine Island won the next two, 25-23 and 26-24. The Cobras then took the last two sets, 25-21 and 15-13.

Leading Pine Island offensively were Regan Bushman and Avri Kundert with 12 and 11 kills, respectively. Sydney Andrist was the engine to the offense with 39 assists.

On the other side of the ball, Kundert led with 16 digs, Jordan Brehmer had 14 digs and Bushman had a team-high three blocks.

Pine Island next travels to Hayfield on Saturday for a tournament.

Byron 3, Goodhue 1

Goodhue traveled to Byron on Thursday, falling victim to a 3-1 loss. Goodhue lost the first set, 25-21, came back to win the second set, 25-22, but lost the next two sets, 25-22 and 25-17.

Torrie Rehder led the Wildcats with 25 digs, Elise Tipcke had four aces, and Hannah Gadient had 10 kills and five blocks.

Goodhue next travels to Hayfield on Saturday for a tournament.

Schaeffer Academy 3, Randolph 2

Randolph took Schaeffer Academy into five sets, but the Rockets came up just short of victory, losing 3-2.

Randolph lost its first set 25-13, won the second 25-21, lost the third 25-23, won the fourth 25-16 and lost the fifth 15-6.

Individual stats were unavailable.

Randolph next travels to Blooming Prairie on Monday.

Stewartville 3, Lake City 0

Lake City had a difficult time scoring points when visiting Stewartville on Thursday, getting swept in three sets.

Stewartville held a double-digit margin of victory in all three sets, winning (25-15, 25-12, 25-15).

Leaders for Lake City included: Delaney Issendorf with 11 kills and Grace Bany with four kills.


Century 3, Cannon Falls 0

Hosting Century on Tuesday, Cannon Falls came on the wrong side of the scoresheet, losing 3-0.

The Bombers dropped the first set 25-18, the second 25-20 and the third 25-18.

Leaders for Cannon Falls included: K.K. Bowen with 10 kills, Molly Bowen with nine digs and Jaci Winchell with 13 assists.

Lyle Pacelli 3, Randolph 0

Randolph, seeking its first win of the young season will have to wait a little bit longer as it lost to visiting Lyle Pacelli on Tuesday, 3-0. The Rockets dropped all three sets (25-16, 25-22, 25-23).

Leading Randolph on offense were Megan Erickson with five kills and Morgyn Otte with nine assists and five aces. Meredith Taylor was the defensive leader with 11 digs. Erickson also contributed three blocks.
