After buying Red's Savoy Pizza in October, Tom and Candy Radke have purchased another restaurant in downtown Red Wing as well.

One that's literally right next door.

On June 9, the Radke's opened Fat Frog Sub House & Deli in the former restaurant that housed SJ's Gourmet Subs.

After SJ's Gourmet Subs closed its doors in March, the Radke's decided to open Fat Frog, continuing in the traditions of The SubHouse, using the same type of bread from the Gonnella Bakery in Chicago.

Fat Frog will serve Boar's Head deli meats and cheeses, with salads, soups, and eventually, a special of the day hot meal.

There are also catering options for those interested. For general questions, contact the Radke's either at Red's Savoy Pizza or Fat Frog Sub House & Deli.

After retiring from 24 years in law enforcement, Tom said he and Candy were excited about buying Red's Savoy Pizza, calling onto their respective college days of working in the restaurant business.

Tom said he and his wife, along with their five children who work in the restaurants, are looking forward to challenge of running a sub-sandwich restaurant. Tom said if the community is patient with them, they know they can deliver.

"I think we bring something back to the community," Tom said. "We're just not a chain (restaurant) where other things get sent outside the community ... it's nice to just having good, quality food at a fair price."

Fat Frog will be open 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday. Fat Frog, as well as Red's Savoy Pizza, offers a delivery service, too.
