Boys Hockey: Albert Lea scores twice in third to beat Red Wing
With a handful of games left in the regular season, Red Wing has come off a three-game unbeaten streak with consecutive losses, the latest a 6-4 defeat at the hands of Albert Lea on Monday.
Noah Bolland and Teddy Lillico both scored for the Wingers in the first period against the Tigers, but Albert Lea held a 3-2 lead going into the first intermission.
In the second, Michael Stoffel and Dylan Handler made it 4-3 Red Wing, but the Tigers tied the game with less than two minutes to play in the period.
The third saw Michael Savelkoul score twice, both on the power play, to lift Albert Lea to victory.
The Tigers out-shot the Wingers, 35-25, and converted on two of their three power plays, while Red Wing went 0-for-3 with the man-advantage. Zach Harding made 29 saves in the loss while Calen Hoelscher stopped 21 shots for Albert Lea.
The Wingers (4-15-2), who lost in 4-3 overtime to Minnehaha Academy on Saturday, host Winona on Thursday, then hit the road for the final three games of the regular season. On Monday, Feb. 12, the Wingers go to Austin, followed by a trip to Hastings on Tuesday and a visit to Northfield on Thursday, Feb. 15.
