Girls Basketball: Points hard to come by, but Wingers top Mankato East
It was not a good night to shoot a basketball, but Red Wing took advantage of far more chances in a 49-28 Big Nine Conference victory over Mankato East.
The Wingers shot 28 percent for the game, while the Cougars finished at 34 percent. But Red Wing had 59 shots to East's 26.
Lindsay Reps was the only scorer for either team to reach double digits, finishing with 14 points. Teammate Kyli Nelson had nine for the Wingers, and Tayzha Buck and Dani Deming each had eight.
Lexi Karge's seven were a team-high for the Cougars.
Red Wing (15-3) has a three-game road trip next week, beginning in Austin on Monday, going to Albert Lea on Thursday and ending Friday in Stewartville.
Kyli Nelson, Lindsay Reps and a suffocating defense gave Red Wing a 69-45 Big Nine Conference victory over Rochester John Marshall on Tuesday.
The Wingers held the Rockets to a dozen points in the first half, and carried a 27-12 lead into halftime.
Both teams found more offense in the second half, but Red Wing still had the advantage, 42-33.
Nelson had 17 points, and Reps 12, to lead the Wingers. Reps added seven rebounds and four assists in the win.
