Q: Why does the Red Wing Police Department use the "Grinch" to promote kindness through the Holiday Season?

A: I have always enjoyed the book "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" and also appreciate the movie, "How the Grinch Stole Christmas (2000)" starring Jim Carrey. This led the Red Wing Police Department to utilize the Grinch on a float in the Holiday Stroll in 2014 & 2015, with the motto to remind everyone to "Lock up their inner Grinch and enjoy the caring and sharing of the Holidays". Then in 2016, we started the "Grinchmas Photo Booth" in an effort to promote acts of kindness to "grow the Grinch's heart". What better way to do that then to retell the story of "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" by Dr. Suess.

According to the dictionary, a Grinch is an "unpleasant person who spoils other people's fun or enjoyment," so we want to do the exact opposite of this definition, and encourage kindness by hosting a FREE "Grinchmas Photo Booth" which brings family and friends together to capture fun memorable moments.

The event also encourages others to help grow the Grinch's heart by doing random acts of kindness for others in the community which is the essence of the story. It's about self, coming together as a community and sharing in acts of kindness, giving to those in need, and hopefully, this will remain in our hearts all year long, contributing to a stronger community.

To quote the Grinch, "Maybe Christmas," he thought, "doesn't come from a store. Maybe Christmas...perhaps...means a little bit more!"
