Cross-Country: Sortland wins 3A Mega Meet

Zumbrota-Mazeppa/Kenyon-Wanamingo's Natasha Sortland was the medalist in the Class 3A girls race at the Milaca Mega Meet on Saturday. ZMKW came in seventh as a team with 194 points, with Visitation winning the team championship with 52 points.

Sortland's time of 19 minutes, 16.73 seconds beat Sartell-St. Stephen's Ingrid Buiceag-arama by 0.06 seconds. Lauren Berg was second for ZMKW, and 37th overall, with a 22:06.55, followed by Skyler Jacobson (44th, 22:16.30), Natalye Quam (45th, 22:17.77), Tess Hokanson (97th, 23:54.55), Hailey Grudem (115th, 25:04.78) and Grace Beebe (129th, 26:16.54).

Jacey Majerus was the top runner for Lake City in the girls' Class 2A meet, taking fourth with a time of 20:22.78. Marissa Whitehead of Martin County West won with a 19:58.28, while Fairmont edged the Tigers for the team title 90-130.

Johannah Clementson (18th, 21:42.46) and Julia Koplin (20th, 21:43.34) came in the top 20 for Lake City, followed by Brenna Nelson (43rd, 22:31.26), McKenna Beltz (55th, 22:44.35) and Sidney Renelt (57th, 22:50.35).


Lake City placed 17th in the Class 2A Milaca Mega Meet on Saturday, led by Reese Anderson's 33rd-place time of 18:12.34.

Nash Nelson (58th, 18:42.58), Ben Johnson (88th, 19:13.35), Joey Kozlowski (99th, 19:25.10), Zach Scharpen (149th, 20:51.35) and John Harms (152nd, 21:06.38) also ran for the Tigers. Greenway's Geno Uhrbom won in 16:10.57, and Lac qui Parle Valley took the team title with 112 points. Lake City had 394.

The Zumbrota-Mazeppa/Kenyon-Wanamingo boys placed 20th in the Class 3A race with 600 points. Cooper Utley led the way with a 20:20.21, good for 103rd, followed by Carter Cordes (125th, 21:35.32), Peyton Liffrig (132nd, 22:37.85), Dylan Mollenhauser (133rd, 22:37.85) and Willy Heitmann (134th, 22:47.62). Red River won the meet with 59 points, with Detroit Lakes' Tanner Olson taking medalist honors with a 17:14.20.
