Prepare for flood 2019 round No. 2 at Red Wing and Lake City
The Mississippi River is rising again and Red Wing could experience a season’s second crest by April 24, according to the National Weather Service.
The river had climbed to 13 feet by 8 p.m. Thursday, April 18.That’s up from approximately 12.2 feet late Tuesday and early Wednesday. That was the lowest local reading since the river crested at 15.81 feet on April 1.
Flood stage is 14 feet. The river is expected to hit flood stage sometime Sunday or Monday. The projected crest this time is 15 feet.
“One notable difference related to the timing of the second crest is the impact to boaters on the
Mississippi River. The boat launches at both Bay Point and Colvill Park are closed,” the city announced in a news release Thursday.
Public Works will be closing the following this weekend:
- Levee Road from Pottery Pond to the round-a-bout. This includes the areas of Ole Miss Marina and Bay Point Park.
- East Fifth Street by the entrance to Barn Bluff/He Mni Can. This includes access to Red Wing Conservation Clubhouse and the Red Wing Waste Water Treatment Plant.
“Please remember that it is dangerous and illegal to drive around barricades,” the city warned.
Flooding at Lake City, meanwhile is expected to crest again sometime Monday at 17.8 feet. Flood stage there is 16 feet.
