County 2020 budgeting begins
Agencies that work in and around Goodhue County were invited to present funding requests for 2020 and 2021 to the county's budget committee on Tuesday, June 11. Thirteen organizations presented requests.
The final budget will not be voted on until December; however, county staff has begun the process of crafting preliminary budgets for County Board to discuss. On August 10 the board will be presented with the first draft at the county fair in Zumbrota.
The majority of the requests for the coming two years were either increases to previous requests or new requests. The only organization to ask for less funding was the Southeastern Minnesota Multi-County Housing and Redevelopment Authority.
"The overall general overhead budget for 2020 reflects a 0.44% decrease over 2019 and is allocated to counties based on population," the request stated.
SEMMCHRA is requesting $395,580 in 2020 and 2021, which is about $6,000 less than the 2019 funding request. The funding decrease comes from the completion of the 2019 housing study.
None of the organizations who asked for financial support were refused by the committee during this preliminary phase of creating the budget, though some organizations may receive a smaller amount than requested. Cuts may come as the budget is finalized and is brought before County Board.
