Once the investigation is completed, it will be brought to City Council for a decision on how to move forward.

Assistant Fire Chief Mike Warner is the acting fire chief during the investigation.

Draper has worked for the city since Aug. 22, 2016, and receives an annual gross salary of $106,766.40, according to Swanson.

Draper, who started as a volunteer firefighter nearly 30 years ago, came from Vermillion, S.D., where he also served as fire chief. He succeeded the late Tom Scheider, who had retired.
