EV charging station coming to downtown Red Wing
Red Wing City Council approved the installation of one electric vehicle charging station during the regular meeting Monday, Jan. 22.
The council decided to move forward with this project after being awarded a $2,000 CERT seed grant to cover installation costs. The remainder of the project will be covered by the city, and the total project cost is just under $16,000.
The council decided to waive an optional lifetime warranty on the station in favor of the standard three-year warranty so the city can charge a market-rate fee for use of the station.
The EV station will be located in either the La Grange parking lot or in Seminary Plaza. City staff is evaluating both locations right now to determine which would be most cost effective.
The project is expected to be completed by fall 2018. The council plans to re-evaluate this pilot project in two years.
