It seemed only appropriate for the entire school to be in attendance on May 2 for the Sunnyside Elementary playground groundbreaking ceremony. After all, the playground is for the kids.

In a unique collaboration between the district and the city of Red Wing, construction is set to begin soon, concluding this fall.

The planning process took a year to come together, securing $40,000 from the city of Red Wing, along with a partnership that will involve the engineering and labor toward earthwork, drain tile and cement.

The project will cost $178,522 total.

Mayor Sean Dowse spoke during the groundbreaking ceremony, remarking at how impressed he is by the district and all of its supporters.
