Recap: Honoring Martin Luther King Jr. in Red Wing
For the second year in a row, the Martin Luther King Jr. Breakfast was held in Red Wing. The event began at 7 a.m. Monday, lasting a little more than two hours, with speakers addressing several dozen people in attendance at the Red Wing High School. Most were adults because classes were not in session.
John Thompson, a community activist, was the keynote speaker, with newly elected 2nd District Rep. Angie Craig speaking as well. There was also a live broadcast from the Minneapolis MLK Breakfast featuring Don Lemon, a CNN news anchor and journalist.
The breakfast was concluded with a performance by the Silver Tones, a 55-plus choral group that has performed for more than decade at area nursing homes, care centers and other venues.
The breakfast was sponsored by the Red Wing Area Seniors, the Red Wing Human Rights Commission and Red Wing Community Education.
