Z-M looking for new board member

ZUMBROTA — The Zumbrota-Mazeppa School Board will be looking to fill a vacancy left by a member who has moved out of the district, according to the school's website.

Dirk Niles, the board's treasurer, will vacate his seat, according to the resolution on the Nov. 26 regular board meeting agenda.

In an email to the Republican Eagle, Niles said he and his family had to move after an unexpected death in his family. They were approached by a couple to sell their home and were unable to find a rental property in the district.

"None of this was planned — when elected I fully intended to finish out my board term, which runs until the end of 2020," Niles said in an email. "The district is in excellent hands and I fully support the facilities assessment project currently underway."

A special election will be held in 2019 to determine who will fill the remaining two years of the vacated position.

The post on the website says the position will begin in January, with the board making a decision at the Nov. 26 regular board meeting. Those interested must apply by emailing brendaw@zmsch.k12.mn.us by noon Wednesday, Nov. 26.

The applicant must be a Zumbrota-Mazeppa School District resident for at least 30 days, 21 years of age or old, and not be a convicted sex offender.
