Annual audit checks out
Steve Salveson of Smith, Schafer, and Associates, presented Red Wing School District's annual audit to the board Monday, Dec. 4, 2017. Salveson said, upon completion, auditors issued a clean opinion on the district, meaning no modifications were necessary.
The audit included a test of Minnesota legal compliance, with no compliance exceptions found.
Personnel moves made
Hires: Dena Strand, education paraprofessional at Sunnyside Elementary School, effective Nov. 30, 2017 (due to a resignation).
Resignations: Sue Forsberg, swimming instructor/lifeguard at Twin Bluff Middle School, effective May 31, 2018; Anna Schlangen, education assistant at Burnside Elementary School, effective Dec. 31, 2017.
In other news ...
• District Business Manager Jackie Paradis presented the annual Truth-in-Taxation hearing. No one from the public spoke.
• A spring break trip to Nashville, Tenn., was approved for Red Wing High School band and choir students. The trip will take place March 1-3, 2019.
• Student School Board representative Cayenne Korder reported that "The Laramie Project" will be the annual winter play. Rehearsals have begun for mid-January performances. "The Addams Family" has been chosen as the high school's spring musical, which will be performed at the Sheldon Theatre in May. Korder also gave an update on the Link Crew, which supports upperclassmen connecting with eighth-grade students. A holiday party for the groups is in the works.
• Meeting watch: Monday's meeting lasted approximately one hour and 56 minutes at Red Wing High School. All board members were present. The next meeting is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 18, at City Hall.
