TOWN OF TRENTON — The Pierce County Sheriff's Office was investigating a weekend fire that displaced the resident of a Hager City-area home.

Ellsworth Fire Chief Brent Langer said the home at W7680 165th Ave. in the town of Trenton was left uninhabitable after the fire, first reported at 6:41 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 26. He said investigation of the fire's cause was turned over to the sheriff's office.

The fire appeared to start in the basement, Langer said, and left heavy structural damage to the floor, along with smoke damage. The resident and three pets all escaped the fire without injury, Langer said. None of the 48 Ellsworth firefighters who responded were injured, nor were any of the assisting firefighters from Red Wing.

Property records list the homeowners as Daryl A. and Mary E. Ekholm.

Firefighters cleared the scene just after 9 p.m.
