Traffic delays anticipated during Highway 58 bridge demolition at Zumbrota
ZUMBROTA — Motorists on Highway 52 at Zumbrota are reminded that traffic slow downs are expected through early Monday morning, Oct. 16, as crews demolish the old Highway 58 bridge over Highway 52, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.
Crews will be taking the old bridge down and dropping portions into sand on Highway 52. They are expected to remove the bridge by 5 a.m., Oct. 16 and reopen Highway 52 to traffic. If work is completed earlier, the highway will open sooner.
During the demolition and cleanup, traffic on Highway 52 will be routed up and down the interchange ramps and through the roundabouts at each side of the new bridge. Traffic is expected to slow through this point and could back up during busy travel times during the weekend. Motorists should plan for additional travel time or take an alternate route to avoid this section. Traffic flaggers will be on hand Saturday to help traffic across the new bridge.
The work is part of the replacement of the Highway 58 bridge over Highway 52. The project will also improve connections for pedestrians and bicyclists across the bridge, traffic flow off of Highway 52 and the length of the uphill acceleration lane onto southbound Highway 52. Completion of the project is scheduled for this fall.
