National Night Out: A chance to build community
National Night Out was founded in 1984 with a grant from the National Crime Prevention Council and sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch. National Night Out began simply with neighbors turning on their porch lights and sitting in front of their homes. This annual community- building campaign to promote police and community partnerships has grown each year and encourages residents to get out in their communities, hold block parties, and get to know their neighbors. Although I wasnt able to visit each neighborhood gathering, I participated in some events. I want to thank our police, fire fighters, and first responders, and area residents for all of their efforts in planning and attending neighborhood gatherings. What a great way for all residents to share our common interest in safe and healthy neighborhoods and to celebrate the strengths of our community!
