Sawtooth Bluegrass Band plans return to Crossings
The Sawtooth Bluegrass Band will perform at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 9 at Crossings at Carnegie in Zumbrota.
The band is putting a new face on what it means for teenage boys to put together a band, a Crossings spokeswoman said.
"The Sawtooth Bluegrass Band is two sets of teenage brothers that have become fast friends during the last three years of working and playing together," she explained.
"Bluegrass music brought the brothers together, and since then, they have become a tight-knit group on and off the stage. Between skiing, fishing, playing video games and traveling together, the boys can be found arranging four-part a capella gospel numbers and writing original songs."
The musicians are the Moravec brothers from Rochester -- Ethan on bass and harmony vocals and Jesse on mandolin and lead vocals -- and the Birtzer brothers from Rosemount, Minn. -- Clint on guitar and lead vocals, Luke on fiddle and harmony vocals, and Shane, the band's emcee, on banjo.
The band has been hired to perform in Branson, Mo., at Silver Dollar City for the Bluegrass & BBQ Festival two years in a row, and it has taken first place in the 2008 MBOTMA Race for a Place Band Contest.
Clint Birtzer is the 2009 Minnesota State Flatpicking Champion, while he and Jesse Moravic placed second and third in the 2008 and 2009 duet championships.
Tickets are $14 in advance or $16 at the door; $10 for students.
Crossings is offering a special price for anyone who buys tickets to all three January concerts: $40.
In addition to Sawtooth Bluegrass, the art center is presenting Peter Ostroushko with Dan Chouinard at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 16; and rock 'n' roll singer Robby Vee at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 30.
