Conservation management work ongoing
The Conservation Corps of Minnesota is in Red Wing this week to begin a five-week contract with the city to remove invasive plant species and non-prairie plants from the native prairies and oak savannas on Sorin’s Bluff/Memorial Park, Barn Bluff and the Billings-Tomfohr Conservation Area.
Funding for the CCM contract was provided by the city, a grant from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and a donation by Friends of the Bluffs.
The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources and CCM, in cooperation with the city and Red Wing School District, will be conducting several controlled prescribed burns at the sites later this fall.
