Two local women compete as Farm Bureau finalists

Amanda Carlson of Welch qualified for the final four in the Minnesota Farm Bureau Federation Young Farmers and Ranchers Discussion Meet during the MFBF 99th annual meeting Nov. 18 at the DoubleTree Hotel in Bloomington.

The Discussion Meet finalists competed in two semifinal rounds Nov. 18 followed by the final four competition. Contestants were judged on their basic knowledge of critical farm issues and their ability to exchange ideas and information in a setting aimed at cooperative problem-solving.

Carlson grew up on her family's dairy farm in Welch. She is the retail manager for Ferndale Market in Cannon Falls.

The state winner of the MFBF Discussion Meet was Megan Roberts of Blue Earth County. She will advance to the national competition at the American Farm Bureau Federation's annual meeting in Nashville, Tenn., Jan. 5-10.

Other top finalists in the Discussion Meet were Katie Winslow of Goodhue County and Carl Sackreiter from Winona County. Winslow works for John Deere and grew up on her family farm in Fillmore County.

Minnesota Farm Bureau Federation Young Farmers and Ranchers conference will be held in Jan. 26-27 in Red Wing.
