Red Wing named Smart Gigabit Community
Red Wing Ignite has been named a Smart Gigabit Community, a designation that's given jointly by US Ignite and the National Science Foundation.
SGC participants are focused on developing "smart gigabit applications that address local community needs, such as education, workforce development, public safety, community health, smart energy and transportation," according to US Ignite. Program members commit to developing two gigabit apps or services each year and sharing those services with the SGC community.
Red Wing joins the ranks of 24 other national and international SGC communities, but the city is the first and only non-major metropolitan area to receive this designation, US Ignite noted.
