The Red Wing Area Chamber of Commerce held its annual meeting and awards ceremony Jan. 28, celebrating the many businesses and contributors to the community.

The theme was "Alice in 400Land," a nod to the classic tale but also to the chamber's growth in membership. President Patty Brown said the chamber is now up to 406 members, adding 48 in 2018.

Brown called the group gathered at Treasure Island Resort & Casino "tough Minnesotans" for braving the bitter cold weather.

Prior to the awards ceremony, the annual meeting was held recognizing outgoing and incoming board members including Heidi Poole of Mayo Clinic Health System in Red Wing as the next chair of the board of directors. Outgoing Chair Paul Cardinal of Pearle Vision will serve as past president.

Brown said 2018 was a banner year for the chamber, recognizing the increase in membership, but also the amount of foot traffic through their building. Brown said they had 6,099 people come into their office, averaging about 150 people per day.

Brown thanked the staff, ambassadors and volunteers for all of their hard work in 2018.

Ambassador, Volunteer of the Year

Terri Cook and Candace Gordon were named the 2018 Ambassador and Volunteer of the Year, respectively.

Cook, an independent sales consultant for Norwex, won her third Ambassador of the Year award. Cook joined the chamber in 2013 and has helped recruit many member businesses as an ambassador.

Gordon, an associate broker with Exit Realty Rivertown, helped assist and spearhead many projects in 2018, according to Brown. Gordon has been a member since 2015.

The chamber added 10 new ambassadors in 2018.
