Bridge piers are sometimes the most notable signs of progress in big bridge projects. People see the site work and all of the mobilizing, but once piers seem to sprout from the ground, it seems that the project becomes more tangible to motorists and residents in the community. That's the case here. If you look over to the Wisconsin side of the project you might begin to see the progress of our piers, key elements in bridge construction. I've included a graphic that shows some of our early progress. You can get updated pier graphics on our Facebook page.
As we prepared for the construction phase of the Red Wing Bridge, you heard a lot about the bridge, how it would look and some of the effects construction might have on the community, while we kept traffic open on the bridge. You've got a ringside seat to the construction process of a bridge. What you're witnessing now is much of the preparation work that it takes to get the site ready to handle all of the trucks, equipment and people it takes to make a bridge rise from the river.
