A Zumbrota man accused of raping his ex-girlfriend was acquitted Wednesday afternoon of both charges brought against him. Joseph Daniel Carlson, 19, was found not guilty of first-degree criminal sexual conduct and third-degree criminal sexual conduct. First Judicial Judge Thomas Bibus dismissed the case after the verdicts were read. "I wasn't surprised," Carlson said outside the courtroom Wednesday. "I put my whole faith, I put it all in God." Looking forward, Carlson said he will work the rest of the summer at his current job and then enlist in active duty in the Army.

Middle school basketball and volleyball will again be offered in Red Wing schools next year. The Red Wing School Board approved 5-0 a proposal at its Monday meeting to re-establish seventh- and eighth-grade boys and girls basketball and volleyball for the 2013-14 school year. "It seems like something like we need and would make a big difference for our kids," Activities Director Matt Schultz told the board. The middle school programs were cut starting in the 2008-09 school year due to budget issues.

A Bay City man has been charged with felony third- and fourth-degree criminal sexual conduct after allegedly raping a co-worker. Cesar Abel Morales Garcia, 26, was booked into Goodhue County Jail April 28. According to a complaint filed in Goodhue County District Court Tuesday, Morales Garcia and his co-worker, 30, got off work at Treasure Island Resort & Casino at about 6 a.m. The woman told police that Morales Garcia had asked to come over to her Red Wing residence after work because he was going to meet up with some friends later that day.
