A 68-year-old Pierce County woman died Wednesday after an ATV rolled on top of her in a cow pasture. According to a Pierce County Sheriff’s Office news release, a family member found the woman and called police at 6 p.m. June 6 from a rural Pierce County residence.
As the Ellsworth High School Class of 2018 gathered as one full group for one last time at their Friday, May 25 commencement ceremony, the messages from speakers were uplifting. Superintendent Barry Cain made special note of the 10, 780 hours of community service performed by the class. “That represents making others’ lives better,” Cain said.
Many area schools announced two-hour late starts Monday, April 16 after getting socked with a spring snowstorm over the weekend. Plows are still cleaning up and in some cases, snow is still falling. Schools that will see two-hour delays include (as of 6:20 a.m.):
An elderly man was found dead Friday when firefighters responded to a house fire in Prescott. According to a news release from the Prescott Police Department, police arrived on the scene of 342 Young St. at 12:53 p.m. April 6 to find the south and east portions of the home fully engulfed in flames. Heavy smoke and heat prevented officers from getting into the home right away, who were advised that one resident may be inside.
Ellsworth Community School District voters have spoken: An operational referendum seeking the authority to exceed the revenue limit by $1 million per year for four years was approved 1,256 to 756 (unofficial results as of 10:55 p.m.) The operational referendum will begin with the 2018-2019 school year. This referendum is due to the current referendum expiring at the end of this school year.
TOWN OF SALEM -- A family of four lost its home in a fire early Monday morning in the town of Salem, escaping with the clothes on their backs, said a family friend. Ellsworth Fire Chief Brent Langer said crews were called just after midnight Feb. 12 to the two-story wood-framed home between Plum City and Ellsworth on Highway 10. The home was ablaze when firefighters arrived. Langer said the occupants told him the home was “fully engulfed within two minutes.”
