Toni Piar, 62 July 16, 2008 Toni Piar, 62, of Lake City, died Wednesday at the Lake City Hospital Mayo Health System after a short courageous battle with cancer. Born in Lake City, July 8, 1946, her family moved to Calif. shortly after she was born. She returned to the Lake City in 1969. She married William Piar May 14, 1979, in S.D. She worked at Federal Mogul for 28 years in quality control. She was a member of St.
Jennie V. Conley, 91, of Owatonna, Minn., formerly of Red Wing, died Tuesday at the St. Mary's Hospital, Rochester, Minn. Born March 26, 1917, the daughter of Grace (Frattalone) and Pasquale Bonasera in St. Paul, Minn., she owned and operated Bonasera's Beauty Shop in St. Paul with her sister. She married William Conley Aug. 28, 1945, in St. Paul, upon his return from World War II. They would move to the Lock and Dam #3 on Prairie Island in Red Wing where they would stay for 24 years raising their family.
Father John Bartholomew, 77 July 12, 2008 Rev. John Paige Bartholomew, 77, Dean Emeritus of Saint Mark's Cathedral, Hastings, Neb. died July 12, 2008. Born Jan. 6, 1931, in Moorestown, N.J., he attended Westminster School in Simsbury, Conn. and graduated from Cornell University, majoring in History. Death of veteran: After an Army tour of duty in which he was a battalion adjutant with the 2nd Armored Division in Bad Kreuznach, Germany, he studied for the priesthood t the Philadelphia Episcopal Divinity School. Joshua James Lubrich, 18, San Diego, Calif. died July 1, 2008 in a San Diego hospital after suffering injuries steaming from a Beach accident on May 11, 2008. Born Nov. 3, 1989, to James Lubrich and Sandra Hamel in San Diego, he was raised and educated in San Diego graduating from high school in 2007. He was enrolled at ITT Technical College pursuing a degree in computer science and technology. He enjoyed playing video games, hanging with friends, and making people laugh.
Arlene J. Kohner, 80, of Winona, Minn. formerly of Red Wing, died Monday at her home. Born Jan. 14, 1928, in the village of Blair, Wis., to Harris and Evelyn (Engebretson) Hanson. She married Elmer C. Kohner Oct. 16, 1951, in Rollingstone, Minn., where they lived until moving to Red Wing in 1964. In 1973, they moved to Winona where she worked at the Winona County Auditor's office for 10 years. He died June 2, 2005. She was a member of Central Lutheran Church and its Hannah Circle.
Donna May Tulip, 77, of Pepin died Monday at Luther Hospital in Eau Claire, Wis. Born Jan. 30, 1931, in Lost Creek, Pepin Township, Pepin County, Wis., daughter of Edmund and Irene Elsie Erickson Westberg, she attended school in Pepin, graduating from Pepin High in 1948. She married LaVerne Elwyn Tulip in Wabasha, Minn. Jan. 12, 1949. They farmed on two different farms until they retired in 1985. After retiring they moved to a hobby farm. He died Dec. 10, 1995. She worked as a caregiver for social services in Pepin County.
Mary Benson Gale Molenaar, 82, died Friday at home. Born Jan. 5, 1926, in Minneapolis, Minn., the daughter of Robert and Verna (Ekberg) Gale, she grew up in Carver, Minn. and graduated from Chaska High School Valedictorian in 1943. She attended Macalester College for two years before transferring to the University of Minnesota, matriculating in 1947, with a master of nursing degree. While teaching at General Hospital she met her future husband, Robert Molenaar, in 1948, while he was attending medical school. They were married July 21, 1949.
Lorraine K. Fick, 86, of Lake City, died Friday at the Lake City Hospital. Born Oct. 19, 1921, in Hammond, Minn. to Leo & Ruth (Wagner) Wiley, she graduated from Mary E. McCahill High School in Lake City. She received her teachers training in Red Wing and St. Cloud. She taught in rural schools in the Lake City area and she was a substitute teacher at the McCahill School in the Lake City. She also worked as the church secretary at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Lake City. She married Howard Fick Sept. 28, 1945, in Lake City.
Donald W. McCormick, 84 of Minnesota City, Minn. and formerly of Wabasha and Winona, Minn., died Monday at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center, LaCrosse, Wis. Born in Winona June 26, 1924, the son of John E. and Gertrude (Bath) McCormick, Sr., He began his work career at Schuler Chocolates in Winona, where he worked for 18 years. He then joined his father in the operation of Jack McCormick's Wood Working Shop, later taking over the business, retiring in 1986. July 7, 1960, he was united in marriage to Marlene J.
Mavis Olene Biltz, 98, of Red Wing, died Sunday at the Fairview Red Wing Seminary Home. Born April 30, 1910, in Devil's Lake, N.D. to Albert and Olene (Landsverk) Tennis, she graduated in 1928, from Albert Lea High School and then attended St. John's Nursing School in St. Paul, Minn. graduating in 1931 as a Registered Nurse. Her first job after college was at Hamm's Brewing Company in St. Paul, where she was the company's first nurse. On Nov. 16, 1935, she married Francis Biltz in Minneapolis, Minn. During WWII, they moved to New Jersey, where she worked as an ambulance nurse.
