Douglas "Doug" V. Blethen, 67, of Lake City, died at his home early Thursday morning. Funeral Mass will be at 11:30 a.m. Monday at St. Mary of the Lake Catholic Church with Fathers Richard Dernek and James Russell officiating. @Normal: Burial will be in the church cemetery with military rites by the Lake City American Legion Post 110 and the VFW Post 8729. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service Monday. Memorials are preferred to St. Mary of the Lake Catholic Church Building Fund. Schleicher Funeral Homes, Lake City Chapel, handled arrangements.
Charles Beck, 60Charles W. Beck, 60, of Zumbrota, died on Wednesday, May 6, 2009, at the Rochester Methodist Hospital in Rochester. Mass of Christian burial is scheduled for Monday, May 11, 2009, at 11 a.m. at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Zumbrota with Father Tim Dolan officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation is scheduled for Sunday, May 10, 2009, from 1 to 5 p.m. at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Larson Chapel in Zumbrota, and on Monday one hour prior to the mass at the church. Thomas Earl Riniker, age 58, of Minneapolis, passed away May 4, 2009. He was born in Red Wing, Jan. 5, 1951, to Earl and Mary Riniker and graduated from St. Thomas Academy. Tom was a USMC veteran and served his country in Vietnam. He received his Bachelor's degree from St. Cloud State University and a Master's degree from the University of Oregon. Tom was an educator of the deaf and hard of hearing for 30 years, including 28 years at Intermediate District 287 in Hennepin County. He was passionate about nature, humanitarian causes, politics, and the Minnesota Twins.
Eugene Harold Manfred, age 72, of Red Wing, died on Wednesday, May 6, 2009, at his home. Gene was born on April 20, 1937, in Red Wing, the son of Earl and Helen (Froisland) Manfred. Gene grew up in the Ellsworth area and graduated from Ellsworth High School. He worked as a deputy for the Pierce County Sheriff's Office, Ralston Purina in Hager City, and Lee Lines in Red Wing. Gene was united in marriage to Kathy Klecker on May 18, 1963, at St. Francis Catholic Church in Ellsworth. The couple moved to Red Wing shortly after getting married.
Floyd Stockwell died April 30, 2009 at Falcon Lake Nursing Home, Zapata, Texas after a battle with lung cancer and atherosclerosis. Floyd was born Feb. 13, 1918 in Ellsworth, Wis. He served in the United States Army Air Corps from August 1941 until his honorable discharge as a Staff Sergeant, Nov. 1945.
Dorothy Mildred Lindstrom, 68, of Red Wing, died Friday, May 1, 2009, at her home, surrounded by her five children. She was born Dec. 7, 1940, in Red Wing to Elmer and Mildred (Wettern) Kuhl. In 1958, she graduated from Red Wing Central High School. After graduating, she worked at Holst Vogel and Richardson Law Office. On Sept. 22, 1962, she married Raymond Lindstrom in Red Wing. Raising her five children and taking care of her family was her main and most enjoyable career, though she did work for many years at Red Wing Loan and Investments. Raymond died Nov. 1, 2000.
Dorothy M. Harlan, 94, of Lake City passed away May 3, 2009, at Lake City Nursing Home in Lake City, Minn. Dorothy Margaret Murphy was born Oct. 15, 1914, in Highland Township, Wabasha County, Minn., to Martin and Marie (Gludt) Murphy. She attended District 98 through elementary grades and graduated from St. Felix High School in Wabasha in 1932. Mrs. Harlan received her Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees from Winona State University.
Henry "Bob" M. Hove, 86, of Red Wing, died at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester, May 1, 2009, after a lingering illness. He was born in Leon Township on April 9, 1923. to Hans J. & Mabel (Sande) Hove. He was baptized and confirmed at Wangen Prairie Lutheran Church. He grew up on the home farm and attended school in District 10. He continued his education while serving in the Civilian Conservation Corps and graduated in 1940. He married Adeline M. Strusz of Vasa, Dec. 26, 1944.
Gailynn R. Poston, 60, of Ellsworth (Trimbelle), died accidentally Friday, May 1, 2009. Gailynn was born March 28, 1949, in River Falls, Wis. He lived on the family farm in Trimbelle most of his life, farming the land as well as working for 22 years at S.B. Foot Tanning Co. Gailynn will be remembered for his hard work, storytelling, sense of humor and being an avid golfer and bowler. He absolutely loved the Green Bay Packers.
Margaret (Meg) Sweasy Terrell, 87, of Boise, Idaho, died of heart failure on April 24, 2009, at Grace Assisted Living Memory Center in Meridian, Idaho. Meg was born May 1, 1921, in Red Wing, Minn., to Jesse Raymond Sweasy and Leta von der Sump Sweasy. @death of veteran: After graduation from Carleton College in Northfield, Minn., in 1943, Meg became a lieutenant in the U.S. Navy, stationed in San Francisco, where she met Robert (Tiger) Ridge Terrell, of Salt Lake City, Utah, a lieutenant in the U.S. Army. The Navy and the Army merged on Sept.
