SHIRLEY J. BLANEY Shirley (Hathaway - Everett) Blaney, age 72, of Red Wing, MN passed away Sept. 5, 2008 at St. Brigid's at HI-Park Assisted Living. Shirley was born Nov. 27, 1935 in Menomonie, WI to William Hathaway and Dorane (Lemon) Debee-Olson. As a young child, Shirley became ill and lost her hearing. Being deaf never seemed to stop her though. She lived in Menomonie, WI, Milwaukee, WI; & Delavan, WI. It was there in Delavan that she attended deaf school. When she was finished with school, she moved to St. Paul, MN.
Linden Giar, 63 August 19, 2008, in Red Wing, Minnesota Linden Earl Giar, age 63, of Red Wing, died Tuesday, August 19, at his home. He was born on March 5, 1945, in Lodi, Ohio, to Leo and Geniva (Patton) Giar. He grew up in Spencer, Ohio, and attended schools in Ohio and Minnesota. He served in the U.S. Army from 1963 to 1983, receiving the Bronze Star and the Army Commendation Medal. He married Elaine Kenitz on July 22, 1965, in Durand, Wisconsin. They lived in various places while he was in the military service.
Lester Boettcher, 87 Aug. 20, 2008 Lester Edward Boettcher, 87, of River Falls, died Wednesday at River Falls Area Hospital. He was born Aug. 17, 1921, in Bonduel, Wis., the son of Henry and Martha (Burow) Boettcher, and was a graduate of the Delavan School for the Deaf. On April 14, 1951, he married Adelaide M. Fuller in St. Paul. He worked for Whirlpool Appliance Co. for 34 years.
Eunice D. Roble, 94, Bellechester, died Monday at the Lake City Nursing Home, where she lived for less than a week. Born April 25, 1914, in Red Wing to William and Clara (Miller) Spilman, she grew up in Bellechester and attended St. Mary's School. On May 24, 1935, she married Clarence A. Roble in Red Wing. They lived in Red Wing before they started farming in the Bellechester area. They retired from farming in 1975, but continued to live on the farm. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Bellechester and enjoyed sewing and quilting, gardening and fishing.
Gregory Jay Hanson, 56, of Cincinnati, Ohio, died July 3. Born Jan. 3, 1952, to Harlan and Yvonne Hanson in Red Wing, he graduated from Red Wing Central High School in 1970, attended the University of Minnesota and graduated from the Apostolic Bible Institute in St. Paul before working 33 years for Unisys Corp. A saxophonist, his interests also included theology and history. Survivors include his parents, Harlan and Yvonne of Red Wing; his wife, Connie; daughters, Amanda (the Rev. Daniel) Flemming of Iowa and Elizabeth of Cincinnati; two grandchildren; and siblings, Dr.
Mary "Hazel" Bartlett, 81, Red Wing, died Thursday at her home. She was born Aug. 18, 1926 in Barron, Wis. to Joseph and Sadie (Kavanaugh) Castonia. After graduating from Barron high school, she married Gale Bartlett on Nov. 26, 1947. They lived in Rice Lake before moving to Red Wing in 1977. She worked at the Seminary Home, and retired in 1990. She continued to volunteer there, and helped with administering communion to shut-ins. She was a member of the Church of St. Joseph.
Gregory J Hanson, 56, Cincinnati, Ohio, died July 3. Born Jan. 3, 1952 to Harlan and Yvonne Hanson, he graduated from Red Wing Central High School in 1970. He graduated from the Apostolic Institute in St. Paul, before working 33 years for Unisys Corporation. His interests included music, theology and history. Survivors include his parents, wife Connie, daughters Amanda (Rev. Daniel Fleming), Elizabeth Hanson, grandchildren, sister Nancy, nieces and nephews. The funeral was at the First Apostolic Church in Cincinnati Ohio on July 8.
Bertha L. Arendt, 87, of Lake City, died Wednesday at Lake City Nursing Home. She was born in Granton, Wis., Aug. 1, 1920. At a young age she moved to Oronoco, Minn., and graduated from Rochester High School. She married Leonard P. Arendt at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Bellechester Nov. 14, 1941. They lived in Rochester for two years, where he operated a service station, before purchasing a home in Bellechester, where they lived for 60 years. They moved to Lake City Nursing Home in 2004 due to declining health. He died in 2006. She was member of St.
Joseph Kvittem, 91, of Kenyon, died Thursday morning at Kenyon Sunset Home. Funeral arrangements are pending with the Michaelson Funeral Home of Kenyon.
Grace Kuhl, 93 July 18, 2008 Grace E. Kuhl, 93, formerly of Florence Township, died Friday at the Lake City Nursing Home. Born Sept. 27, 1914, in Florence Township to Henry & Minnie (Peters) Kuhl, she graduated from Red Wing High School and then attended Normal Teachers Training and she taught in rural schools in the Frontenac area. She taught for many years until she suffered a stroke. She lived on the family farm in Florence Township. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Frontenac. Survivors include three nieces and a nephew.
