Steven J. Dahl, 52, of Red Wing, died Tuesday, June 2, 2009, after a long courageous battle with cancer. He was born Aug. 12, 1956, in Red Wing to John and Donnas (DeLong) Dahl. He attended Ellsworth schools and lived and grew up in Hager City. He served as a sergeant in the U.S. Army for three years. He married Francoise Wiedenhoft on May 8, 1976, in Fort Lewis, Washington. They moved back to Red Wing in 1977. He worked at ADM in the maintenance department for 29 years.
Rupert A. Schafer, 80, of Cannon Falls, died unexpectedly at his home on Sunday. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Pius V Catholic Church, 410 Colvill St. W., Cannon Falls, with Father Jay Kythe celebrating. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Lundberg Funeral Home and an hour before the service Thursday at the church. Private burial with military honors will take place in Fort Snelling National Cemetery. The family prefers memorials to the Shepherd Center.
Marion Jane Harth, 92, died Saturday, May 30, 2009, at her nephew's home in Apple Valley, Minn., where she had been residing. She was born Jan. 19, 1917, in Red Wing to Charles and Hattie (Gipford) Black. She graduated from Red Wing Central High School in 1933 and Teacher's Training in 1934. She taught at Welch school for four years. She married Milton Harth on June 28, 1938. Milton enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served during World War II, at which time Marion worked at Honeywell in Minneapolis.
Dallas A. Issendorf, 87, of Lake City, passed away Friday at the Lake City Nursing Home. Dallas was born May 20, 1922, in Lake City to Albert and Lorena (Gerken) Issendorf. He attended school in rural Zumbro Falls. Dallas married Hazel Freiheit June 16, 1944, at United Brethren Church in Hammond, Minn. After they were married they farmed in West Albany Township until retiring in 1988. After retiring they moved to Lake City.
LeRoy Axel Rapp, age 83, of Cannon Falls, died on Tuesday morning, May 26, 2009, at the Cannon Falls Medical Center. LeRoy was born on April 4, 1926, in Cannon Falls, the son of Axel and Olga (Nordquist) Rapp. He attended rural country school near Cannon Falls. He served with the U.S. Navy during World War II from 1943 until his honorable discharge in 1946. He was an electrician by trade, and worked at Prairie Island for more than 20 years until retiring.
Willard F. Payzant, 81, died at his home in Red Wing, Minn., Tuesday, May 26, after a short bout with cancer. He was born in St. Paul, Minn., on Aug. 13, 1927, to Floyd and Florence (Helle) Payzant. He attended Wilson School in St. Paul. He joined the U.S. Navy Seabees at age 17 where he attended electrical school at Port Hueneme, Calif. He was honorably discharged in late June 1946. @Normal: He married Pauline Greski from Moose Lake, Minn., on Feb. 23, 1952. They moved to Stockholm, Wis., where he was a rural letter carrier for 23 years. He retired due to disability.
Dennis Charles Gronert, 61, of Cannon Falls, and formerly of Minneapolis and New York, died unexpectedly at home March 21. Anthony P. Freiheit, 19, of Prescott, passed away after a motorcycle accident Saturday. He was born Oct. 14, 1989, to Stacy Peterson in Owatonna, Minn. On Sept. 11, 2001, Anthony was adopted by Scott Freiheit. Anthony graduated from Prescott High School in 2008. He loved snowmobiling, cooking, and his motorcycle. He also enjoyed Xbox Live and Guitar Hero. He took a great deal of pride in his job at Renewal by Andersen and very much enjoyed his coworkers.
LeRoy A. Rapp, 83, of Cannon Falls, died Tuesday morning at the Cannon Falls Medical Center. He is the husband of Marian and father of Jim, Jon, Tom and Barry. His son Randy died Nov. 10, 2007. Arrangements are pending at Lundberg Funeral Home in Cannon Falls.
Carole Sue Johnson, 68, of Pepin, died Tuesday at her home. Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, Pepin, with the Rev. Karna Baseman Stark officiating. Friends may call one hour prior to services at the church Thursday. Goodrich Funeral Home in Durand is assisting the family.
