Alice Mae Hove, 78, of Ellsworth, died Thursday, May 14, 2009, at United Hospital, St. Paul. Alice was born on April 21, 1931 in Ellsworth, the daughter of Paul and Stella (Guest) Bartlett.
Jack A. Zwolenski, 70, of Ellsworth, died Monday, May 11, 2009, at his home. Jack was born on Aug. 26, 1938, in Minneapolis, the son of John A. and Grace (Fassett) Zwolenski. He was a graduate of Ellsworth High School. On Oct. 11, 1958 Jack married Peggy Dusek at St. Bridget's Catholic Church in River Falls. Jack was a longtime employee at 3M. He was an avid sports enthusiast and particularly enjoyed watching the Packers, playing golf and later in life enjoyed watching baseball. Jack wrote a weekly sports column in the Shopper for many years.
Jack Zwolenski, 70, died Monday at his home. Services are pending with the Hill Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Ellsworth.
Norma Burnette Shefveland, 83, of Ellsworth, passed away Friday, May 8, 2009, at Ellsworth Care Center. She was born in Clarkfield, Minn., on Sept. 9, 1925, to Ludvig and Idella (Christiansen) Peterson. She married Robert Stanley Shefveland; they were married for 62 years. Stan passed away on July 5, 2007. Norma was an active member of English Lutheran Church, the Wisconsin Republican Party, and the American Legion Auxiliary. Norma is survived by five children, Richard D. (Jeanne) Shefveland of West St. Paul, Stanley A.
Rolin H. "Mike" Johnson, 80, of Lake City, Minn., passed away May 10, 2009, in Lake City after a short hospitalization. Mike was born Aug. 23, 1928, in Minneapolis to Melker and Jennie Johnson. He attended school in Mound, Minn., received his B.S. in business administration from Carthage College, Illinois, and a Masters of Science in Hospital Administration from Northwestern University in Chicago. @death of veteran: During the Korean War, he served as a staff sergeant in U.S. Army intelligence.
James "Jim" D. Krismer, 43, of Zumbro Falls, Minn., died Friday, May 8, 2009, in Hyde Park Township, Wabasha County, Minn. Funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church-West Albany, rural Millville, Minn., with Fathers Richard J. Dernek and Robert Meyer officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends and relatives may visit from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the church and one hour prior to the service Wednesday at the church. A prayer service will be at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday at the church.
Delna Lorraine Hawes, 55, of Maiden Rock, died Wednesday at St. Joseph's Hospital, Chippewa Falls, Wis. Funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Hill Funeral Home, Ellsworth, with the Rev. John Hazen officiating. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Ellsworth. Visitation will be one hour before the service.
Geraldine Gongoll, 74, Wausau, Wis., died Friday, May 8, 2009, at Aspirus Wausau Hospital. She was a special education teacher for the D.C. Everest School District in Schofield, Wis. Survivors include two sons, William (Katy) Gongoll of Wausau, and Tim (Judy) Gongoll of De Pere; four daughters, Mary (Mark) Dearth of Wausau, Patti Jensen of Neenah, Barbi (Eric) Mogensen of West Allis and Thelma "Jodi" Behnke of Denver, Colo.; 10 grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. Services were held Monday at Institute of Christ the King Sovereign Priest-St. Mary's Oratory, Wausau, Wis.
Nicholas "Nick" Allen Bayer, 29, of Ellsworth, passed away after a tragic accident on Friday, May 8, 2009. He was born in Red Wing, Minn., on May 26, 1979, to Randy and Sandra (Hanson) Bayer. Nick loved the outdoors, especially fishing and hunting. He belonged to the Ellsworth Fire Department and the Ellsworth Hubbers baseball team. He loved baseball and football with his favorite teams being the Minnesota Vikings and the Minnesota Twins.
Harold W. Apely, 85, of rural Lake City, died Friday evening at his home. Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at St. John's Lutheran Church, Lake City, with Pastor Dennis J. Valleau officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today at Schleicher Funeral Homes, Lake City Chapel, and one hour prior to the service Wednesday at the church.
