Mike Albertsen, 76, of Mesa, Ariz., and formerly of Red Wing, died May 22, in Mesa. He was born Oct. 3, 1932, to Albert and Martha Albertsen in Atlantic, Iowa. He was a Korean War veteran and was proud of his presidential citation. He married Monie Cavanaugh on Aug. 18, 1953, in Council Bluffs, Iowa. They lived throughout the Midwest, including Red Wing.
Hazel "Wanda" Rutledge, 86, died Saturday at the Villa at Hi-Park. Memorial service will be 1 p.m. Friday at the chapel at St. Brigid's at Hi-Park with Dar Reeck officiating.
Arden Ray Lindemoen, 74, of Red Wing, died Wednesday, June 10, 2009, at the Fairview Seminary Home. He was born Oct. 10, 1934, in Big Woods Township in Marshall County, Minn., to Richard and Anna (Westman) Lindemoen. He attended country schools in Big Woods Township and graduated in 1952 from Crookston High School. He attended the University of Minnesota-Crookston Agriculture School. He married Sylvia Johnson on July 27, 1955. They lived in Blaine, where he worked for Local 548 as a millwright. They later divorced. He married Janet Soderstrom on Oct. 20, 1979.
Wanda M. Klecker, 94, of Ellsworth, died Monday, June 8, 2009, at Ellsworth Care Center. Wanda was born Nov. 6, 1914, in Durand, Wis., the daughter of Joseph and Orma (Hansemann) Schlumpf. She married John B. Klecker on Oct. 10, 1933, in Durand at St. Mary's Catholic Church. Wanda was a homemaker until her husband passed away and then worked for the care center for 10 years and later the senior center. She enjoyed gardening, canning, baking, playing cards, knitting, crocheting, spending time with her friends and family. Wanda loved her Catholic faith and was a member of St.
David W. Johnson, 92, of Ellsworth, died Monday, June 8, 2009, at the Ellsworth Care Center. David is survived by his three children, Ron (Jackie) Johnson, Ellsworth, Mary Ann (Paul) Janovec, River Falls, Keith Johnson, Ellsworth; 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; one sister, Rose Jackson, Nashville, Tenn.; two half sisters, Ruby Anderson, Aurora, Neb., Marion McConnel, Phoenix, Ariz. His wife, Isabel; son Gary; parents, Hilding and Frankie Johnson; daughter in-law, Jane; brothers, Maynard and Alton preceded him in death. Funeral services for David will be 1 p.m.
James Cherwinka, 75, of Cannon Falls passed away Saturday, June 6, 2009, at the Trinity Care Center in Farmington, Minn., following an brief illness, surrounded by his wife and children. James George Cherwinka was born Aug. 28, 1933, in Green Bay, Wis., the son of Dorothy (Guile) and Charlton Cherwinka. His family moved to Antigo, Wis., where he attended school and graduated from Antigo High School. He went on to Lawrence College in Appleton, Wis., to become a draftsman. He was employed by Hayes-Lucas Lumber in Owatonna and Blooming Prairie, Minn.
Evert John Carlson, 71, of Red Wing, died suddenly on June 4, 2009, while fishing on his favorite lake, Big Sandy, near McGregor, Minn. Evert was born Oct. 7, 1937, in Red Wing, Minn., the son of Elmer and Eunice (Wulf) Carlson. He grew up on the family farm in Vasa and graduated from Red Wing Central High School in 1955. @death of veteran: After graduation, Evert enlisted in the United States Navy in 1956 and served his country for three years before receiving an honorable discharge in 1959.
Arleigh A. Zemke, 77, of Goodhue, died Wednesday at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester. Arrangements are pending with the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Larson Chapel in Zumbrota.
Steven J. Dahl, 52, of Red Wing, died Tuesday, June 2, 2009, after a long courageous battle with cancer. He was born Aug. 12, 1956, in Red Wing to John and Donnas (DeLong) Dahl. He attended Ellsworth schools and lived and grew up in Hager City. He served as a sergeant in the U.S. Army for three years. He married Francoise Wiedenhoft on May 8, 1976, in Fort Lewis, Washington. They moved back to Red Wing in 1977. He worked at ADM in the maintenance department for 29 years.
Rupert A. Schafer, 80, of Cannon Falls, died unexpectedly at his home on Sunday. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Pius V Catholic Church, 410 Colvill St. W., Cannon Falls, with Father Jay Kythe celebrating. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Lundberg Funeral Home and an hour before the service Thursday at the church. Private burial with military honors will take place in Fort Snelling National Cemetery. The family prefers memorials to the Shepherd Center.
