Louis Evans, 64, of Bay City, died unexpectedly Saturday. He was born May 25, 1945, to Kenneth and Bonnie Evans. He grew up in Hastings. He owned and operated Mr. Louie's Hair Design in Rosemount and Lakeville and also owned Mr. Upholster. For a short time he lived in Lake City on a hobby farm and began working with Anderson House Tour Groups. For the past 15 years he owned Red Wing Pawn Shop.
Joyce Lorraine Bauer, 73, of Ellsworth, died Saturday at the Ellsworth Care Center after a battle with various health complications. Funeral will be 6 p.m. Wednesday at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, River Falls, with the Rev. Gerd Bents officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call at the church from 3 p.m. until time of services. Hill Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Ellsworth, is assisting the family with arrangements.
Karla J. Colegrove, age 45 of Maiden Rock, died on Thursday, Aug. 20, 2009 at the River Falls Area Hospital. Karla was born the daughter of LaVerne and Marilyn (Bottolfson) Klingensmith on Oct. 8, 1963 in River Falls. She was confirmed by Pastor Wally Mylander at Bethel Covenant Church and attended Sunday school at Bethlehem Lutheran and Bethel Covenant Church. She graduated from Ellsworth High School with the class of 1982. Karla was employed by Hiawatha National Bank for 19 years. She enjoyed the wonderful relationships she had with her customers at the bank.
Robert Fermin Opsahl, resident of White Bear Lake, Minn., was born in Red Wing, on Sept. 26, 1937 and passed away on Aug. 21, 2009. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ordner and Melvina Opsahl; brother, Ordner Jr. "Pete" Opsahl and sister, June Hardy. Surviving are his wife of 48 years, Janet; sons: Thomas (Darlyn) Opsahl, Allen (Mary Ellen) Opsahl and David (Delena) Opsahl; 15 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and brother, Edward (Rita) Opsahl. Fermin had a life-long love of airplanes which lead to a 21 year career in the United States Air Force.
Andrew Roy Peterson, 89 of Boulder City, Nev., for 13 years, has passed away. Born April 17, 1920 in Anoka County, Minn. to Fred and Gina (Mickelson) Peterson. Raised on their farm. Completed high school in Red Wing, in the class of 1938. Enlisted in Army Air Corps in 1943. Flew 51 B-24 combat missions in European theater in 1944 including the oil fields of Ploesti, Rumania. His next assignment was in the USA Air Transport Command from which he was discharged in 1947. From the US Air Force Reserves Capt.
Pete Shelstad, age 66, of Hastings, passed away on Aug. 20, 2009. He was a Golden Gloves coach from '69-'73, in Hastings. Pete was an avid pool and cribbage player. He was a retired state employee, executive one in research dept. of economics for 20 years. He is preceded in death by his parents, Al and Lucile; sister, Elaine; and three nephews. He is survived by brother, Butch and sister, Fay and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, Sept. 12, from 1-5 p.m. at the Hastings VFW.
Dorothy M. Peterson, age 83, of River Falls, formerly of Prescott, died Thursday, Aug. 20, 2009 at the Kinnic Long Term Care, River Falls. Services for Dorothy will be 2:30 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 22 at the Hill Funeral Home, Prescott. Rev. Jean Gfall will officiate. Burial will be in the Pine Glen Cemetery, Prescott. Friends are invited to call at the funeral home on Saturday for one hour prior to the service.
Dawn Marie Hanson, age 45 of Longville, Minn., formerly of Red Wing, died on Wednesday, Aug. 19, 2009 at her mother's residence in Hager City, Wis. She was born on June 15, 1964 in Red Wing. She grew up in the Red Wing area and graduated from Red Wing Central High School. She then worked for Hager City Express for a few years before relocating to the Walker, Minn. area in 1989. She began working at Forestview Lodge where she met her lifelong companion, Brook Kinder. After Forestview closed in 2001, she began working at Huddle's Resort in Whipholt, Minn., up until her recent illness.
Lisa Lynn Linder, 45, of Ellsworth, died Wednesday, Aug. 19, 2009, of cancer at Fairview Red Wing Medical Center. She was born Aug. 22, 1963, in Chippewa Falls, Wis., to Dale and Darlene (Theisen) Schultz. She attended Red Wing schools. She married Brian Linder on Sept. 4, 1982, in Red Wing at United Lutheran Church. They lived in Hager City. He died Sept. 21, 2004. She most recently lived in Ellsworth.
Marie Ann Steinbruckner, 66, formerly of Roseau, Minn., died on Sunday, Aug. 16, 2009, at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, N.D., with her family by her side. She was born on March 16, 1943, in Roseau, Minn. to R. Newell and Anora (Sorter) Dunham. Marie grew up in Roseau and graduated from high school in 1961. She went to the University of Minnesota in Moorhead, Minn., for one year and later earned a bachelor's degree in social work at Inver Grove Heights Community College. In 1965, she married Gary Blucher at the Riverside Lutheran Church in Wannaska, Minn.
