Virgil Duane Hernke, 78, a lifelong resident of Leon Township, died on Friday at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester. Funeral service will be 11 a.m. today at Urland Lutheran Church, 6940 County Road 9, Cannon Falls, with the Rev. Dean Lundgren officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. Neale "Shep" Sheppard, 89, of Pine Island, died Thursday at the Zumbrota Care Center. Memorial service will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at United Methodist Church in Pine Island. Burial will be in the Pine Island Cemetery. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Monday and one hour prior to the service, all at the church. Millicent Marie Stockwell, 77, of Red Wing, died Thursday at St. Brigids At Hi-Park. Mass of Christian burial will be 11 a.m. Monday at St. Francis Catholic Church, Ellsworth, with Father Tom Donaldson officiating. Burial will be in St. John the Baptist Cemetery in Plum City. Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Hill Funeral Home in Ellsworth and one hour prior to the funeral Monday at church.
Norris E. Fredrickson, 85, of Zumbrota, died on Wednesday, July 1, at his home in Zumbrota. A memorial service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Monday, July 6, at Minneola Lutheran Church in rural Zumbrota with the Rev. Sarah Nietz officiating. Inurnment will be in the church cemetery. Visitation is scheduled for 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Larson Chapel in Zumbrota, and on Monday one hour prior to the service at the church. Norris Everett Fredrickson was born Oct. 3, 1923, in Wanamingo Township, Goodhue County, Minn., to Nels and Emma (Satren) Fredrickson.
Eleanor Rosina Huber, 84, of Red Wing, died Wednesday, July 1, at Fairview Seminary Home. Eleanor was born Sept. 27, 1924, in Belvidere Township, the daughter of Dominic and Frances (Jansen) Krier. Eleanor worked as a waitress at Ted's Café until she married Arley Huber on June 10, 1949, in Ellsworth. They moved to Red Wing in 1951. This past year Eleanor and Arley celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. Eleanor was a member of First Presbyterian Church, life member of the Burnson-Lillyblad VFW 1218, Leo C. Peterson American Legion Post 54, and Eastern Star.

Laurel Carolyn Whipple, 68, a resident of the Syverson Lutheran Home in of Eau Claire, Wis., and formerly of Pepin, died Sunday at Luther Hospital in Eau Claire. Born Dec. 24, 1940, in Pepin the daughter of George "Dewey" and Florence Weberg Johnson, she was the youngest of three siblings; Maxine (Wayne) Rundquist of Stockholm and Lois (Duane) Juliot of Pepin. Laurel was raised in Pepin and attended Pepin High School. Laurel's passion was her family, friends, love for all people, including her Lord and Savior.
Robert B. "Bob Hanson, 82, of Ellsworth, passed away Monday, June 29, 2009, at his residence. Bob was born in Trenton Township on Oct. 15, 1926, the son of Nels and Anna (Anderson) Hanson. In 1942 he was drafted into the Army and was honorably discharged in 1944. Bob was united in marriage to Betty Rosenberg on May 17, 1949, in Red Wing. Bob enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a good father and grandfather. He loved to visit with friends and spend time with his family.
Betty Joy Young, 81, of Beldenville, died Sunday at Baldwin Area Medical Center, Baldwin, Wis. Born April 19, 1928, in Cornell, Wis., the daughter of Ernest and Lillian (Warnberg) Helmer, she married Donald Young on Dec. 13, 1948. Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at First Presbyterian Church Ellsworth. Burial will be in the Beldenville Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Hill Funeral Home, Ellsworth, and for one hour prior to services Thursday at the church.
