An off-shooting night doomed Randolph on Monday as the Rockets fell to Grand Meadow, 51-39. Randolph hit just 39.5 percent from the field, 40 percent from the free-throw line, and 1 of 13 from the 3-point arc in the loss. Maddie Grant had a game-high 13 points for the Rockets, with Hanna Neil chipping in 11 and eight rebounds. Randolph (17-7) closes out the regular season with a visit to Winona to face Hope Lutheran on Tuesday and a Friday home game against LeRoy-Ostrander on Friday.
With Jay Sullivan and Dalton Kubista finishing with 20-plus points, Owatonna was able to beat Red Wing on Saturday with an 80-53 Big Nine Conference victory in Owatonna. Sullivan led all scorers with 26 points, followed by 20 for Kubista. The Huskies led 34-19 at halftime, then scored 46 in the second half, compared to 34 for the Wingers. Jawon Terry paced Red Wing with 12 points along with three steals. Teddy Tauer added 10 points and four rebounds, and Mac DeSutter came up with seven points off the bench.
The upset wasn't going to come this time as Kasson-Mantorville fended off Pine Island, 64-46, on Friday. The two Hiawatha Valley League teams met for the second time in four days. This time, a healthy Kristin Scott led the KoMets to a win with 29 points and eight rebounds. The Panthers were paced by Josselyn Lindahl's 12 points, all on 3-pointers, with Autumn Pin adding 10, most of which came on three 3-pointers.
Teddy Tauer had the hot hand for Red Wing on Friday, and it led to a Big Nine Conference victory over host Albert Lea, 67-38. Tauer finished with a team-high 23 points on 9 of 13 shooting, adding four rebounds and three steals to his stat line. Kipp Adams was the only other Winger in double digits with 10 points, but nine other Red Wing players had at least two points. Seth Yeatman led the Wingers with seven rebounds, and also had a team-leading four steals.
Ben Opsahl's 19 points led all scorers, and Goodhue to a 56-42 victory over Randolph on Friday. Opsahl also had five rebounds, with fellow Wildcat Taylor Buck adding 12 points and five rebounds. Sam Opsahl had 10 points in the win, with Jacob McNamara finishing with nine. Carsyn Gunderson led the Rockets with 13 points, and Andrew Wenstrom followed with nine.
The first half and the second half produced the same point total, and it led to a 54-38 victory for Zumbrota-Mazeppa over Hiawatha Valley League foe Kenyon-Wanamingo. Isaiah Nolte led the Cougars with 13 points, adding four rebounds, four steals and a pair of assists on the night. Z-M's Robvon Jackson also hit double figures, scoring 11 points with 11 rebounds and two steals. Gavin Roosen led the Knights with 16 points and four steals, but no other K-W play managed more than eight points in the loss.
Pine Island held a 15-point lead at halftime, and then held Kasson-Mantorville to 19 second-half points in a 72-44 Hiawatha Valley League victory over the KoMets on Friday. Mark Mboya Kotieno owned the paint for the Panthers, hauling in 17 rebounds while teammate Broc Finstuen scored 21 points on 9 of 10 shooting. Camden Heepke hit three 3-pointers to boost his 14 points for Pine Island. The Panthers (16-4, 8-3 HVL) will host Stewartville on Tuesday.
Shooting 62 percent from the floor, Goodhue’s patient approach paid dividends Thursday in a Section 1A matchup with Bethlehem Academy as the Wildcats won 54-42 in Faribault. Ben Opsahl finished with a game-high 21 points on 10 of 15 shooting along with three rebounds. Taylor Buck came up with 11 points, two assists and two steals, and Jacob McNamara put together a strong performance with nine points and six rebounds.
Red Wing scored on four of its 10 shots in the first period en route to a 10-2 blow out of Big Nine Conference rival Winona on Thursday. Eight different Wingers scored against the Winhawks, with Spencer Kronbeck's hat trick leading the way. Josh Partington, Cam Blue, Tyler DeFore, Jack Maroushek, Drew Siewert, Nick Ramstad and Logan Sammon each had a goal for Red Wing, with DeFore and Sammon totaling two points on the night.
The match of the night came early as John Altendorf held off Jack Williams, 3-1, to give Goodhue a 9-0 lead over Pine Island on Thursday. The Wildcats would ride three pins and a handful of forfeits to a 55-24 victory over the Panthers. Baxter O'Reilly, Kaleb O'Reilly and Kodee O'Reilly each picked up six points by fall for Goodhue. Dawson Fallon had a pin for Pine Island, as did Mason Pike and Matt Riley.
