A proposal for a kindergarten program for 4-year-olds in Ellsworth schools was discussed at a school board forum Monday. However, the audience consisted mostly of members of a committee appointed to study the idea. Curriculum Director Leona Johnson said the program would be set up like a preschool and be called Panther Preschool.
A referendum regarding a long-range plan for the Ellsworth School District was proposed at the Ellsworth School Board meeting early this week. School administrators recommended the board consider a referendum election on April 1 featuring ballot questions about facilities and operations, Supt. Dan Kaler said.

ELLSWORTH -- The late Trevor J. Diesing, who was killed while serving in the U.S. Army in Iraq last August, will be memorialized during a name-unveiling ceremony at the Pierce County Courthouse at 6:30 p.m. July 14. Sgt. First Class Diesing's name is to be permanently displayed on a veterans memorial tablet in front of the Courthouse. Five such tablets there list the names of county soldiers who've died in past wars. Area residents wishing to show their respect are invited to the ceremony.
ELLSWORTH -- Since Jill Sears put new screen printing equipment into operation at her Ellsworth Township home this summer, she's already done many printing jobs. The Designs by Jill owner no longer needs to hire an outside contractor to handle the printing aspect of a process that places her artwork on promotional items.
ELLSWORTH -- A switch of fifth-graders from Hillcrest Elementary School to Ellsworth Middle School beginning this fall was approved by the School Board Monday. The move was proposed last month because of overcrowded conditions at Hillcrest. On Monday, Supt.
ELLSWORTH -- Fifth-graders at Hillcrest Elementary School may find themselves going to school with the "big kids" next year. Supt. Dan Kaler suggested to the Ellsworth School Board Monday that the students be moved to the middle school as early as next year. Though the board postponed a decision until next month's meeting, Kaler said the move will help solve the space crunch at Hillcrest.
