Regarding Paula Overby's article (Sept. 6, 2017) supporting transgender people in the military, she shows both courage and insight of personal experience, and she deserves respect from any who disagree. As one who strongly supported Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton, I find myself somewhat awkwardly in agreement with President Donald Trump's right to pardon former Arizona Sheriff Joe Arapaio, someone whom I've long detested. Arpaio is an old man who, for many years, used his lawful powers to persecute minorities, particularly Latino-Americans living both legally and illegally in the Phoenix district. Regardless, Trump has exerted the unconditional legal power of the presidents to issue a pardon.
