Red Wing Police Department received a call shortly after 7 a.m. Friday, Feb. 10, that an SUV apparently had gone off Pioneer Road and into Hay Creek. The vehicle was empty when the department arrived. The Honda Pilot had been there for an undetermined amount of time and both front airbags had deployed. A Siewert's Garage driver responded with a standard tow truck. "After the driver arrived on scene and saw the vehicle was on rocks, we decided to bring the rotator," Kyle Siewert said.

Area residents will be among the Americans exercising their First Amendment rights Saturday, both in the Women's March in Washington, D.C., and sister marches in Minnesota. Some locals are already at the nation's capital. Some will leave by car, bus and plane this week. Still more will drive to St. Paul on Saturday.
A Mayo Clinic Health System in Red Wing provider has earned a distinction only two dozen Minnesota physician assistants have received. Doug Larsen was recently awarded a specialty credential called a Certificate of Added Qualifications from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants.

The new owners of Boxrud's Resale and Gifts quickly expanded to accommodate soon-to-be newlyweds. The shop has added Jump the Broom Wedding Consignment. Tamara O'Brien and Sarah Prihara purchased the business Nov. 1 from Angie Hauschildt. In addition to selling used furniture, hand-crafted barnwood furnishings, home decor, children's clothing and speciality gifts at 417 Main St., the mother-daughter business partners also wanted to incorporate new ideas and a fresh sense of style.
Dr. Tom Witt soon will turn more of his attention to family practice and hospital integration as he steps aside as CEO of Mayo Clinic Health System in Cannon Falls, Lake City and Red Wing. In early February, Dr. Brian Whited will take over the practice leadership position, MCHS announced Tuesday. He is the vice president of operations for Mayo Clinic Health System. Witt will continue leading the work of coordinating and integrating the health system's hospitals across southeastern Minnesota, officials said. He also will continue to care for patients in the area.
A fire smoldering behind a wall triggered a carbon monoxide alarm Sunday, Dec. 11, at 371 Cannonview Drive. Emergency dispatch received a call at 1:58 a.m. that a carbon monoxide alarm had sounded. While Red Wing Fire Department was en route, police reported there was light smoke in the house that the homeowner believed was from the wood-burning fireplace, Fire Chief Shannon Draper and Lt. Trent Wentlandt said.
Who's that coming down the holiday track? It's Thomas ... and a dozen other toy engines. The Red Wing Gandy Dancers model railroad club has its 10th Christmas display running at the St. James Hotel. "We like to think it's becoming a tradition," Jerry Dooley said. The club started in 2002 when the Red Wing Senior Center had a vacant patient room in the former St. John's Hospital. A few aficionados set up a couple of trains from their private collections.
Business notebook Bill Federbusch of Red Wing received first place in H.H. Bennett Studio's summerlong "Water in Wisconsin" photo contest. Federbusch, whose family has had a summer home in the Wisconsin Dells for several generations, won with his photo titled "Leaving Cold Water Canyon."
