Indigo Properties owner Carolyn Hedin says the renovation of 329 Main St. is right on schedule, and she hopes to have its interior finished by fall. Located at the corner of Bush and Main, the site is optimal for a future retail business, she said, and Indigo Properties will look to find the right tenant within the year. The once long, narrow space is being doubled in size, as Red Wing Construction works to remove a brick load-bearing wall between the recently purchased space at 329 Main and the Indigo Room at 325 Main. Three heavy metal beams will replace the brick wall.
Attendees of Thursday night’s Watermelon Art Centerpiece class creatively and carefully carved lifelike flowers from 6 to 9 p.m. at Red Wing High School for their Easter centerpieces. Friends since they were 16 years old, Sharon Eggenberger and Karen Thorie said that they were excited to be “crafty in the kitchen” and use their hand-carved centerpieces during their Easter weekend hosting. Halved watermelons were used for each centerpiece, cut side down. After the outer green skin was removed with a knife, a circle cut was made into the fleshy part with a small round measuring cup.
Red Wing Environmental Learning Center has made the move from the Anderson Center to 442 Guernsey Lane, and the non-profit organization has kicked off its first-ever capital campaign to aid in “celebrating our past, building for the future.” ELC Executive Director Jason Jech said that the goal is to raise $400,000 to help with the costs of buying of the former Hi-Park Dairy barn from the Red Wing Public Schools and renovating it. The purchase made in November 2013 includes approximately 3.56 acres plus the barn and adjoining home. All donations are tax deductible and will go toward the purc

Jessica Mattson dipped into the sweet world of chocolatiers as a part-time worker more than three years ago. With a degree in elementary education, Mattson taught for Under the Rainbow in Red Wing when she began working at Red Wing Confectionery. “It was a fun job on the side,” she said. Now, as full-time, hands-on captain of the confectionery team, she manages the storefront operations as well as the candy-making process in the “back of the shop.” “It is a tremendous hands-on process,” owner Donna Nesbitt said about managing the confectionery.
