William Warr Jr. was foreman of the decorating department at Red Wing Potteries (1949-54) and also designed some dinnerware patterns. His daughter sent this photo to the Pottery Museum of Red Wing, which would love to identify the women in it, if anyone knows who they are. “Bird of Paradise” and “Caprice” — sample plates shown above — were in materials saved by designer William Warr Jr.

Louise Schleich and her late husband, Jerry, started with a $40 pantry jar and built their collection into the Schleich Red Wing Pottery Museum in Lincoln, Neb. That museum’s 5,000-plus pieces are now in Red Wing.

This rare 30-gallon salt glaze butterfly crock with "Red Wing Stoneware Co." stenciled in cobalt is one of the many great pieces expected to be up for grabs at this year's Red Wing Collectors Society Convention members-only auction at 4:30 p.m. Thursday July 12 at Red Wing High School.
