With 10 first-place finishes on Thursday, the Red Wing swimming and diving team disposed of Austin for a 97-89 win in a Big Nine Conference dual at Twin Bluff Middle School.
The foursome of Grace O'Brien, Sammy Kriese, Cecelia De Jong and LeEtta McDowell opened the meet with a victory in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 2 minutes, 9.02 seconds. The Wingers bookended the meet with a victory in the final event, the 400 freestyle relay, with Teegan Beyers, Kriese, Grace O'Brien and De Jong finishing in 3:55.48.
Kriese picked up two wins in sprint events, with first-place efforts in the 100 freestyle (58.93) and the 100 breaststroke (1:12.88). De Jong was a two-time winner in the 200 individual medley (2:26.32) and the 100 butterfly (1:01.73), and O'Brien notched two victories in the 500 freestyle (5:46.17) and the 100 backstroke (1:07.21). Teegan Beyers was a two-time victor at well, with wins in the 200 freestyle (2:09.02) and the 50 freestyle (26.96).
Riley Marty provided a second-place showing in diving with a score of 152.70 points.
"The ladies fought well tonight," said Red Wing head coach Mikayla Beuch. "We were short a few people but we didn't let it slow us down. We are nearing the end of our season so we are starting to shift our focus towards our bigger meets coming up."
This week, the Wingers have a conference dual at Rochester Century on Tuesday, followed by the section True Team meet at noon on Oct. 14 in Northfield.
