Girls Swimming: Wingers drop road dual to West
Going on the road for a Big Nine Conference dual meet on Thursday, Red Wing fell short to Mankato West as the host Scarlets won 96-84.
"We had a tough meet tonight against a great team," said Wingers head coach Mikayla Beuch. "Mankato West is a well-rounded team with a lot of depth. Our goal was to get out and swim and have fun and I think we did a good job of that."
Red Wing opened the meet with a win as the 200-yard medley relay of Grace O'Brien, Sammy Kriese, Cecelia De Jong and Teegan Beyers won with a time of 1 minute, 58.01 seconds. Another relay win came in the 400 freestyle, where De Jong, Kriese, O'Brien and Teegan took top honors in 3:52.32.
De Jong won a pair of races individually with the top spot in the 200 individual medley (2:23.09) and the 100 butterfly (1:00.58). O'Brien won both the 500 freestyle (5:47.03) and 100 backstroke (1:07.95), and Kriese was the top finisher in the 100 breaststroke (1:12.62).
Madison Beyers placed second in the 200 freestyle (2:12.69) while Teegan was runner-up in both the 50 freestyle (26.38) and 100 freestyle (58.49).
Next Thursday, Oct. 5, the Wingers will return to Twin Bluff Middle School for a home dual with Austin.
