Football: Mankato East fends off Red Wing

Red Wing's passing game made strides in Friday's Week 4 matchup with Mankato East. But the host Cougars were able to keep the Wingers out of the win column with a 58-18 Big Southeast Blue District victory.

Down 13-0 with 8 minutes, 24 seconds to go in the first half, Red Wing made it a one-score game when quarterback Marcus Walm connected with receiver Seth Yeatman for an 11-yard touchdown grab.

Walm and Yeatman connected again for a 49-yard touchdown in the second half. Walm was 9 of 21 passing for 168 yards and one interception while Yeatman tallied 78 yards on four catches.

Tre Moore also found the end zone on a 40-yard touchdown reception in the second half, leading the team with 80 yards on four catches.

On the ground, Mac DeSutter paced the Wingers' rushing game with 83 yards on 20 carries, followed by 25 yards on five attempts from Walm.

Now at 0-4 overall, Red Wing is back on the road for Week 5 against Rochester John Marshall before coming back to town for homecoming against Faribault on Oct. 7.
