Boys Soccer: Red Wing takes loss at Winona
Freshman Jeyson Roque scored a pair of goals for Red Wing, but Winona was able to score a pair of second-half goals en route to a 4-2 Big Nine Conference win Thursday at Paul Giel Field in Winona.
Roque scored his first goal in the 21st minute, then popped in his second score in the second half, at the 68th minute.
“Jeyson’s played really well and finds a second gear in the second half,” said Wingers head coach Tony Casci. “He’s gotten the most shots on goal on our team. He’s a left-footed left-mid that is getting a lot of balls on frame for us.”
In net, goalkeeper Keegyn McNamee made 17 saves.
“That’s a few more than we want him to have to make, but he did really well playing on the turf,” Casci said. “There was a couple times where we didn’t help him out at all.”
The Winhawks got the game-winning goal in the second half by Caleb Harmon.
Red Wing (0-3, 0-2 Big Nine) returns home Tuesday against Rochester Century.
