Track: Winger boys second at Mankato West
With a team score of 45.5, the Red Wing boys' track and field team placed second in a three-team Big Nine Conference triangular Tuesday at Mankato West.
The host Scarlets won the meet with a score of 103, followed by Red Wing and Northfield (37.5).
The Wingers' distance runners thrived on Tuesday, with 1-2 finishes in the 1,600- and 3,200-meter runs. In the 1,600, Weston Wyatt won with a time of 4 minutes, 40.46 seconds, followed by teammate Tucker Wallin in 4:42.24. Then in the 3,200, Asa Beckner took first in 10:34.98, with Tom Nemanich in second at 10:38.84.
Also collecting a win for Red Wing was the 4x400 relay with a time of 3:47.61.
Red Wing also put together 2-3 finishes in the long jump and triple jump. Aleski Hedetniemi was second in the long jump with a distance of 17 feet, 7 inches, with Carson Nystuen in third at 16-10. Daryl Pickett was second in the triple jump at 39-1.5, and Nystuen was right behind Pickett at 37-0.75. Pickett also tied for second in the high jump with a leap of 5-10, and Michael Baker placed third in the 100 dash with a time of 12.52.
