Boys Track: Red Wing tops home meet
Hosting a three-team invite against Big Nine Conference foes Rochester Mayo and Winona, the Red Wing boys’ track and field team came away with the victory Tuesday at Red Wing High School.
The Wingers finished with 72 team points, followed by Mayo’s 64 and Winona’s 50.
In the field events, Daryl Pickett had three first-place finishes, coming in the triple jump (40 feet, 1 inches), long jump (19-1) and a tie for first in the high jump (5-8). The long jump and triple jump had 1-2-3 finishes, with Carson Nystuen (37-10) and Joseph Polus (34-10) in the triple jump and Nystuen (18-2.25) and Aleski Hedetniemi (17-4.25) in the long jump. In the pole vault, Greyson Magill finished tied for second with Hedetniemi with a height of 9-0.
On the track, three individuals -- Macklin Maroushek (400, 58.65), Weston Wyatt (800, 2:06.16) and Tom Nemanich (3,200, 10:26.00) -- took top honors. Asa Beckner was second in the 1,600 at 4:55.19, and Tucker Wallin was runner-up in the 3,200 at 10:39.00. The 4x200 (1:42.98) and 4x800 relays (8:59.06) wrapped up first-place finishes.
