Baseball: Tauer, Wingers' defense lock down Austin

Junior left-hander Teddy Tauer struck out 10 and limited Austin to one hit and two walks in a 7-0 Big Nine Conference win on Tuesday.

Along with his strong day on the mound, Tauer was 1-for-3 with a double and a run scored. Tyler DeFore went 2-for-3 with a pair of runs and an RBI for the Wingers, and Zach Harding finished 1-for-3 with a double and a run.

Finishing with eight hits, Red Wing sprinted out of the gate with five runs in the first inning. The defense was also solid behind Tauer with zero errors.

Josi Bothun took the loss for Austin, allowing seven hits and seven runs in four innings. The Packers’ lone hit came from Riley Retterath, who was 1-for-3.

On Thursday, Red Wing goes on the road for a Big Nine showdown with Winona.
