Baseball: Wingers shut out Albert Lea
Seth Morem's RBI single in the bottom of the first inning was all Teddy Tauer needed on Tuesday as Red Wing blanked Albert Lea, 5-0, to pick up a Big Nine Conference victory.
Tauer pitched a complete game for the Wingers, allowing six hits and striking out five without issuing a walk. In the fourth, the Tigers managed to load the bases, but a ground ball back to Tauer started a 1-2-3 double play. Tauer also assisted on the third out on the next batter, escaping the jam.
Tauer then added Red Wing's second run in the bottom of the fourth on a sacrifice fly that scored Tyler DeFore, who also scored the game's first run.
In the sixth, the Wingers broke it open with RBI from Tauer, Seth Cushing and Grant Rolen, which scored Brodie Smith, DeFore and Morem.
Red Wing (2-1) heads to Rochester Century on Thursday before hosting Bemidji on Friday. The game time against the Lumberjacks has been moved from 5 p.m. to 3 p.m.
