Girls Swimming: Relay, DeJong heading to state
With a time of 1 minute, 53.79 seconds, Red Wing's 200-yard medley relay team took second place at the Section 1A meet on Friday, giving the Wingers a state entrant just one race into the proceedings.
Grace O'Brien, Sammy Kriese, Cecelia DeJong and Claire King finished four seconds behind Mankato West, but claimed a spot for this weekend's state tournament.
DeJong will also swim individually after a fourth-place finish in the 100 butterfly in 1:01.04, which was 0.02 under the state cutoff.
Other top-five finishes for Red Wing included Kriese in the 200 individual medley (4th, 2:20.79), Grace O'Brien in the 500 freestyle (5th, 5:35.26), the 200 freestyle relay team of Polina Duchelle, DeJong, Teegan Beyers and King (5th, 1:44.76), O'Brien in the 100 backstroke (4th, 1:02.91) and Kriese in the 100 breaststroke (5th, 1:10.80).
The state meet is Nov. 16-18 at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center in Minneapolis.
