Girls Golf: Wingers top Missota foes

Another dreary day, another Missota Conference victory for Red Wing, this time at Bluff Creek Golf Course in Chaska. The Wingers’ winning score of 319 was 13 shots better than second-place New Prague’s 332.

Stephanie Herzog led Red Wing with a 76, but Nicole Schammel was right behind with a 77. Sophia Yoemans shot an 80, the first of four Wingers to score 88 or lower, including Solveig Christenson (86), Reagan Haley (87) and Kayla Oberding (88).

“It was probably the worst course (conditions) we’ve played on in five or six years, it was so wet,” said Red Wing head coach Mark Herzog. “The greens were very nice, but there were a lot of breaks, but that’s why they call it Bluff Creek. The short game was difficult.”

The win caps off a good three days for Red Wing as the Wingers also won Saturday’s Irish Invitational at Emerald Greens Golf Course in Hastings. The Wingers totaled a 325, 11 shots ahead of Lakeville North’s 336.

Herzog again led the team with a 77, with Schammel coming in with an 80. Yoemans (83), Haley (85), Christenson (87) and Oberding (94) rounded out the scoring.

The Wingers will host an invitational Tuesday, then take some time off before jumping back on the course April 21.
