Softball: Menomonie surges past Red Wing

Leading 4-0 after five innings, Menomonie went off for five runs in the sixth on the way to an 11-1 blowout against Red Wing Saturday at Red Wing High School.

The Wingers managed just three hits – all singles – from McKenzie Cota, Hannah Walch and Mary Bender. Cota scored the team’s lone run in the seventh on Walch’s base hit.

Emily Boxrud went six innings on the rubber for Red Wing, striking out three while allowing eight hits, four walks and nine runs (seven earned). Menomonie finished the game with 12 hits and 10 runners left on base.

Monday’s doubleheader with Shakopee was postponed, so the Wingers return to the field Tuesday at home against New Prague.
